Freedoms Junior Team Tennis Circuit

Every year, Down The Line partners with Mylan World Team Tennis (WTT) and the Philadelphia Freedoms to host co-ed 10-and-under team tennis tournaments throughout the spring and summer. The teams use the innovative format created by Billie Jean King, who founded WTT based on a concept of gender equity, which offers a unique way to be introduced to the sport. Since these tournaments are for young children trying out the sport for the first time, decompressed tennis balls are used and participants with a USTA ranking are not permitted to play.

Each year over 500 participants enter tournaments around the Philadelphia area. There are tournaments offered on every surface, including grass and clay courts. For many, this is the only opportunity to experience what it is like to play on grass or a junior mixed-doubles tournament.

For participating, players receive a free USTA membership as well as a ticket to a Philadelphia Freedoms home match. This allows each participant to be able to experience tournament play as well as be exposed to live professional tennis at the Villanova Pavilion, where legends such as Caroline Wozniacki, Andy Roddick and Martina Hingis battle in this unique format.

The Freedoms circuit would not be possible without Chairman of Down The Line Gordon Kuhn, and National Director for WTT Delaine Mast (pictured left). Both volunteer their time to run the tournaments, and work tirelessly to promote the game of tennis around Pennsylvania and beyond. Thank you Delaine and Gordon!
